Comprehending a Name

The name's 'Bond'..'James Bond'..

Ever thought of what impression did you get, when you hear that introduction with a strong scottish accent? humm..let me guess, for about 50% of humans, it brings up a picture of a handsome spy, with a Walther' model PPK, sipping Martini (Shaken..not stirred) with a few enamoured blonds vying to get his attention.......well that was easy for anybody, who has watched a any of the 20 fabled bond movies (till date) or had read the original Ian Flemings literary work..

However, we are more concerned here, about what impression, the rest 50% of humans (who haven't heard abt the famous Ian Fleming character ..yet) get, when they hear the name for the first time...
......errr..tough one.. so I went about asking a few people..
and guess what..there is a pattern here..nearly 90 % of people, for the second category.. concurred, the name is of a Man...I wonder why?

I wonder, what's it in a name, that gives you a perception of the entity it is supposed to identify?

With little analysis I found that through out our life, we (humans) hear new names and try to classify names into different categories..like names of Men, women, places, streets, birds, oceans..etc..

Little more thought..you would realize names in categories of Men and Women stand out..as we see name of rest all category are sometimes, named after legendary names of Men and Women...(does America..ring any bell?).

Now, let' s take the though to a different domain, let's goto a place, far far east of hollywood, say..to a remote village in India....where language spoken is Hindi (most famous of the 25 official languages in india), religion is hinduism. Names of people (at least in rural india) is after the hindu gods and goddesses (As per hindu mythology..there are approximately 330 million hindu gods, and each having mutiple names..phew).

So in this place, let's find a person who hasn't heard the name 'James Bond' before (not a big ask..is it?)..and let's give him the famous introduction of James Bond...Tough to imagine his response, hence I decided to test it out..with a real person (incidentally ..my subject for the test was a Man..) and gave him the name 'James Bond', and asked him to associate this name to any entity he thinks, the name is best suited for....

To my surprise..he could associate the name to be a Man...not to a lake, not to an insect..not even to an Woman..I still wonder how (& why)... any ideas?
